LinkedIn is a great platform that allows job seekers to network with recruiting agencies and employers. There are a number of reasons as to why you should be on Linkedin.
1) LinkedIn recruiters are looking for talent everyday. 97% of employers and recruiters are on Linkedin.
2) Compensation on LinkedIn is usually higher compared to roles posted on job
boards like CareerBuilder and Indeed.
3) Recruiters use "inMail" to reach out to candidates (This can happen whether you apply for the role or not). Many times people miss out on opportunities because they do not understand how the inMail feature works. If you see this in your private messages, there is a high possibility that a job is interested in you.
4) LinkedIn is like an online resume. You need to be on it! Keep your account updated regularly. If you do not use it then at least get into the habit of keeping it regularly updated.
5) Send private messages to recruiters on LinkedIn to express interest in the positions. A lot of times, recruiters are eager to hear from you.
6) Contract offerings on Linkedin can range from either short or long-term. This means that contracts can be as little as 6 months or as high as 24+ months. The perk is that contracts can be extended. The disadvantage is that they are sometimes not long-term and may not offer extensions. It is also important to note that sometimes contracts do not offer benefits so it is up to you to consider your options.
